ILM sets new passenger record
Officials say 2018 will be strong as well
The airport, also known as ILM, saw 836,589 people fly out of and into the airport in 2017. That’s an increase over the former record of 817,896 set in 2016.
“We are pleased to have another record setting year at ILM and look forward to continued growth in 2018,” Airport Director Julie Wilsey said in a statement.
Airport officials predicted that 2018 would be strong as well, after the airport landed new services to Chicago and Washington offered by United Airlines and by American Airlines. Both routes will see two nonstop flights on 50-seat regional jets.
Further, American Airlines announced it would offer a new summer flight to Dallas in 2018. Dallas, the largest hub for American, is the eighth most popular destination for departing Port City passengers, according to the airport.
The airport is also planning for an $88 million upgrade in the coming years that would include two new parking decks, an expanded terminal for concessions and passenger space, and a doubling of the airport’s gates from five to 10.
